BAMcinematek pays a one month tribute to Chantal Akerman (1950-2015), the legendary highly influential avant-garde Belgian filmmaker who forged a new cinematic language by wedding an uncompromising formal rigor with a profound depth of feeling. J. Hoberman of The New York Times called her, "One of the great film artists of her generation." It is an extraordinary retrospective that encompasses twenty-two of her films, from her earliest work "Je tu il elle" (done at the age of 15) to her final work, "No Home Movie." Which will be the U.S premier of the film. Akerman explored alienation, female subjectivity, landscapes both physical and psychological, and her own identity. Please note that Akerman's most famous film, "Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai Du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles" will not be show at BAM, but at Film Forum until April 7th.
