Winner of the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival from the acclaimed auteur Aki Kaurismaki, "The Other Side of Hope" is a delightful comic fable. Khaled, a young Syrian refugee shows up at a Helsinki port after narrowly escaping war-torn Aleppo stowing away on a freighter. He encounters both racism and kindness from ordinary Finns. When immigration officials move to deport him, he goes underground-and crosses paths with the taciturn Wikstrom a middle-aged salesman looking to change his life by opening a restaurant "The Golden Pint." The film is filled with dry humor, and deep humanity. Starring Sakari Kuosmanen and Sherman Haji. In Finnish/English/Arabic. 98 minutes. English subtitles.
