Vilhelm Hammershoi (1846-1919) misunderstood and under-appreciated during his lifetime, is now recognized as one of the most celebrated Danish artists of the 19th Century. The show is intimate, twenty-five carefully selected paintings (from the National Gallery of Denmark) focusing on his four genres: landscape, desolate city-scapes, portraits, and sparse interiors. It is his "interior" paintings which move me the most; having a haunting, meditative quality.
